Whether a trekking tour through Southeast Asia, a safari in Central Africa, or backpacking through South America – traveling to distant climate zones is possible today for people of all ages, even with chronic pre-existing conditions. So that you can enjoy your trip in good health, we offer comprehensive travel medicine consultation as an official yellow fever vaccination center.
Depending on your destination, travel duration, and personal health situation, we recommend the appropriate travel vaccinations for you. These include standard vaccinations (e.g. tetanus, hepatitis A/B, typhoid) as well as destination-specific vaccinations. We take into account your existing vaccination protection as well as any pre-existing conditions.
We inform you about travel-medicine-relevant infectious diseases at your destination – including malaria, dengue fever, chikungunya, and other tropical diseases. Upon request, we will put together a medication-based malaria prophylaxis for you.
Traveling with pre-existing conditions requires special preparation. We specifically address health risks that may arise from climate changes, physical exertion (e.g. trekking, diving, high-altitude stays), or altered nutritional and hygiene conditions.
We advise you on useful contents for a travel first aid kit and provide practical tips on sun protection, drinking water hygiene, insect protection, and how to handle acute illnesses while traveling.
Travel medicine consultation and travel vaccinations are generally self-pay services and are not automatically covered by statutory health insurance. However, some health insurers reimburse the costs in full or in part – please inquire with your insurer in advance. Private patients are billed according to the GOÄ (German Medical Fee Schedule).
The Praxis am Ponttor is a yellow fever vaccination center recognized and approved by the competent authority. The yellow fever vaccination is legally required for entry into many countries in Central Africa and South America and is documented in the international vaccination certificate (Yellow Booklet).
Yellow fever is a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes that occurs in tropical regions of Africa and South America. Severe cases can be life-threatening. According to current WHO recommendations, a single vaccination provides lifelong protection.
Please download the yellow fever information form in advance, read it carefully, and bring it completed and signed to your appointment. We will also need your international vaccination certificate.
Good travel preparation does not begin when you start packing your bags. Plan your consultation appointment in good time – ideally four to six weeks before departure. This leaves sufficient time for vaccination series that require multiple doses, as well as for obtaining prophylactic medications. With these four steps, you will be optimally prepared.
