Acupuncture
Acupuncture is, alongside Chinese herbal therapy, dietetics, motion exercises (Qi Gong and Tai Chi) and massage techniques one of five pillars of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Pricking specific acupuncture points that are located on defined lines, the meridians, can have a stimulating, positive effect on the life enery “Qi”, and, hence, the physical functions. Nowadays, Chinese Medicine, a traditional branch of medicine, especially acupuncture, is practiced worldwide.
In Germany, acupuncture has been known for decades and has been a self-payer service up until the 90ies. Since 2007, acupuncture is covered by health care providers for specific indications. Typically, acupuncture is known as mere pain therapy for back and knee pain in our region. But acupuncture has so much more potential. A large number of studies have shown results with psychosomatic disorders and a variety of neurological symptoms.
The WHO expert commission has compiled a list of diseases/illnesses where acupuncture is indicated as treatment.
